The End of Software Ownership

Well i can take this topic and relate it to my family. its kind of a funny one but here it goes. My father worked for *** and they gave him Novell computer server cd's(its a bunch of codes and such) worth about $5,000. He was told only to use the Cd's at work and only for himself. But 17 years has past and he still has the cd's(of course they are far expired.) Now does my dad own those cd's or not? Does Novell, the software company own them or my father? There is a grey area here in software ownership and the same in real world smaller applications like you and I

For example lets say i buy a computer game and decide toburn the game and give it to my friend free of charge. Is that a breach of my contract from wal-mart buying the game? I never signed anything saying i wouldnt burn it or trade it. And whats up with the used book stores reselling cd's and computer games what gives???~Nickel
